Meta-analysis on the Effectiveness of Social Function Improvement Programs for People with Schizophrenia

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of social function improvement programs for people with schizophrenia by meta- analysis. It was performed on 106 effect sizes from 72 empirical studies that were published between 1995 and 2011.The findings of the study are summarized as follows. First, the total mean effect-size of social function improvement programs for people with schizophrenia was found to be 0.838(95% CI. 0.685 to 0.991). It showed that social function improvement programs are an effective treatment in people with schizophrenia. This effect size is large, according to Cohen`s definition. second, social function improvement programs were most effective in 30`s, 19~24 sessions, 60¢¦120 minutes, 16¢¦20 sample. Finally, it is suggested that future research have to cover unpublished studies.
